Buying a home is one of the largest purchases most Americans will make in their life. Taking the time to make a proper decision is important--leave no stone unturned!
Here are 5 mistakes that recent homeowners make:
1) Not having an inspection done on the home
Again, one of the biggest purchases of your life--be sure to have the home properly inspected to be sure you know what your are getting into.
Inspections can uncover a wide range of problems in a home, from the condition of the roof to foundation problems. Always be sure to have an inspection done!
2) Failing to calculate true cost of home ownership
There are many line items when it comes to buy a house. More than just the price tag, you need to look at how much interest you will be paying if you take out a mortgage.
Be sure to check the county auditors website to verify what the current annual tax rate is on the property.
Factor in any repairs that will need to be made right away. This can add up even after you have closed on a house!
3) Forgetting About Homeowners Association (HOA) Rules
Failing to read into any HOA bylaws could leave you with unexpected restrictions and again, additional costs. Ask neighbors if they have had any bad experiences with the HOA.
4) Not Asking Questions
Be sure to ask your real estate agent any and all questions regarding your potential house purchase. No question is a bad question! You want to be able to walk in confidence as you complete your purchase.
5) Lacking partnership with a professional insurance agent
Unlike a realtor, which processes a one-time transaction, an insurance agent can be a lifetime partner to make sure you are properly protected.
